Our Wedding Day

As much as I love working big wedding days, I knew I wanted mine to be simple and intimate. Well, even though it was tiny, it packed in some stress. I worked the weekend before my wedding and the next morning, the videographer let me know he tested positive for COVID that morning. The person I stood right next to the entire day. I was so nervous all week just waiting for the symptoms to hit but thankfully they never came.

But, what did show up was Hurricane Zeta. The storm hit New Orleans and knocked out the power for days. What that meant was no power at the hotel and church we were getting married at and the marriage license offices were all closed as well. We could have rescheduled but would have lost out on all the money we paid for flowers. So, we took our one morsel of hope, packed out bags and drove into a mostly powerless city knowing that we weren’t legally getting married.

But even with all that, it turned out great. We woke up to a beautiful morning. My son, from a previous marriage, Cade was the sweetest during our first look! One of my past brides, Meredith-Leigh drove in all the way from Houston to marry us! It was worth every bit of headache and worry to be in that intimate space and say our vows. Afterwards, we grabbed burgers and milkshakes and headed back home! We completed our paperwork the next week so it all worked out despite the curveballs thrown at us. I’m not a huge fan of pretending that all wedding days are magical without an issue. More than likely, it’ll have some stressors and things won’t be absolutely perfect. And it’s totally fine to think “ok, well that sucks!” when something goes wrong but it’s what you do after that matters. Take a minute to process it, push forward, relax, hope for the best and usually that’s what you’ll get!
